DEAR CREATIVITY WIZARD DEAR CREATIVITY WIZARD: I have the desire to create, I am writer of short stories, and yet nothing is flowing out of my pen or out of the keyboard. I could blame it on the month, I could blame it on my mood or I could blame it on my temperarmental laptop. I want to blame it on something....it can't be me...or....could it!!! Of course I could deny all responsibility and just blame it on the weather!!! SIGNED.....TOO DARN!!! DEAR TOO DARN!!! Of course you can surrender to the weather and just blame it on COLE PORTER. In fact it is not about blaming at all and yet it is about responsiblity. Responsibility not in the sense of shame, blame or guilt but actually in the phonetics of the word itself RESPONSIBILITY - our ABILITY to RESPOND. Checking in with yourself regularly gives you sense of where you are in any given day. As you process feelings, attitudes, behaviors and energies, you can be more consciously aware of where you are, what you are doing and your willingness to take action, or not. Not every day needs to be action-packed, not every week or even every month for that matter. Artists of all stripes and expressions have periods of drought and doubt. In any creative life there are dry seasons; they don't last forever even though they may feel like they will. You may feel you have nothing to say and are tempted to say nothing. This is when our art seems dull, lifeless, boring and predictable. If nothing more allow yourself some free-writing time to explore words and images for a while, just for a while with no end result in mind. To write is to "right" things....as one writes (or draws, paints, sings, dances) a path will emerge that bring things right. We bring ourselves back to ourselves to discover within ....an INVINCIBLE FALL!
